The Making of the Atomic by Richard Rhodes is the best science book I've ever read, the best history book I've ever read, and also one of the most readable, fly-through-at-a-breakneck-pace doorstops ever. And it's PACKED with tons of "hey, didya know...?" facts, we love 'em.
