About the authors
Alex is the Chief Strategy Officer at the Human Rights Foundation, a non-profit that promotes civil liberties and challenges authoritarianism across the world. He also lectures at Singularity University on Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and governance.
Timi Ajiboye is a software developer and entrepreneur based in Lagos, Nigeria. He co-founded and currently runs BuyCoins (buycoins.africa), an exchange that lets Africans easily buy and sell bitcoin with their local currency.
Luis Buenaventura started working in the Bitcoin space in 2014 and, with his startup BloomX, focuses on creating practical crypto solutions for the developing world. In 2017, he authored the book “Reinventing Remittances with Bitcoin,” which collects strategies and stories about the fast-growing Bitcoin remittance industry.
He’s presented at venues that include the United Nations, the Brookings Blum Roundtable, and is a regular speaker at the International Money Transfer Conference series.
Luis has been building tech startups in the Philippines for over a decade, and is a prolific illustrator at CRYPTOPOP.net.
Alejandro has led product teams that focus on improving financial access for people, leveraging bitcoin, stablecoins and other technologies.
Alena Vranova is a serial entrepreneur and strategist. She develops early stage ideas into successful products and services. Her track record includes several startups in traditional finance and technology as well as Bitcoin.
In 2013, she left the financial industry to join the Bitcoin revolution and founded SatoshiLabs, one of the most renowned Bitcoin companies in the world creating the first ever hardware wallet called the Trezor.
Today, Alena helps many companies across different industries building profitable businesses and partnerships, but her passion stays with Bitcoin. At Casa, a "Sovereignty as a Service" company, she currently leads strategy.
A polyglot who speaks seven languages, Alena graduated in Economic Diplomacy from University College of International and Public Relations Prague where she has studied international economy and monetary system. Alena has also earned a Master’s Degree in Marketing Communication and a Master in German from Comenius University Bratislava.
Jimmy Song is a Bitcoin Educator, Developer and Entrepreneur. Jimmy is the author of Programming Bitcoin and The Little Bitcoin Book. In addition, he’s a Bitcoin Fellow at Blockchain Capital, a lecturer at the University of Texas, a speaker at Bitcoin conferences, an avid open source contributor, mostly in Bitcoin, and the instructor of a 2-day workshop for programmers, Programming Blockchain.
Jimmy once bought about $100 worth of beef jerky with Bitcoin back in 2013 for 0.25 BTC. Good beef jerky, but not THAT good. That's one major regret. He also got scammed out of 2.5 BTC when he bought a Alitin Mint Adam Smith 2 BTC coin. Those guys had a copy of the private key and the bitcoins on the coin got stolen a few years ago. Another major regret.
Jimmy's goal is to bring sound money to the world. Bitcoin is the one chance at defunding and decentralizing the power of the oligarchy. Making more developers for the ecosystem is his passion.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2020Though familiar with cryptocurrency I'd struggled with how to break it down for the laymen in a nutshell -- and this little book gave me everything I need. Not only did it provide a snapshot of the structure of the bitcoin market, it also helped reinforce the moral reasons why the currency can be a life-saver for individuals living in countries where corruption is rampant, dictators inflate the currency (i.e. steal from the poor) and deny basic human rights. I also enjoyed learning a bit about bitcoin's beginnings, and am now further intrigued to learn more about where the trajectory will go....but first plan to re-read this primer a couple of more times to master the fundamentals, and appreciate the glossary style guide to terms which provides a reference for further learning about this evolving, liberating disruptive technology. p.s. very good narrator on the audio version, felt like listening to a thriller, not just a non-fiction!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019Everyone has friends or family who have heard about Bitcoin, but how do you get them started? There are good books on Bitcoin economics (The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous) and technology (Programming Bitcoin by Jimmy Song). Yet, despite being excellent resources, these books may be a bit too deep for a total newcomer. The Little Bitcoin Book is the solution.
Written over the course of just four days, by eight different industry experts working together, the book is a great introduction to Bitcoin. There are short chapters on money/economics, trading and volatility, and even human rights. Over half of the book is devoted to Q&A, covering most common questions and concerns around the new currency. Plenty of additional resources are linked for those willing to dig deeper and participate in the Bitcoin economy.
If you want to introduce your family to Bitcoin this holiday season, this is the book to get.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2022I recommend this book to people who wish to understand the utility value of Bitcoin and its potential, future place in the global financial system. The book was about 100 pages long so it was a fairly quick and easy read. Michael Saylor also recommended this book. Although I have read more than a dozen books about cryptocurrencies; I still found this book interesting. Reading from a variety of information sources, helps to reduce bias and also offers repetition - the mother of all learning.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2019I have been hearing about BTC for many years, dismissed most of it early on as I've been busy earning/ working. Tried buying some BTC in 2017 (unsuccessfully), but finally got someone 2018. I read some articles on BTC now, (which mostly seem about headlines/ "creating buzz" around the topic.
This is really the first & only thing I've read that actually seems to have a great background, and explain why/ what value this "BTC craze" is about & even justify future of it.
Good to know a bit about what's behind the volatility, now just a matter to buy smart.
... & It's a quick read!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2019A+. This book is like the educational on-ramp for the everyday person grinding away at life. While it would have been nice to see more elaborate explanations of the ongoing issues with the current monetary system, it's enough to get people thinking about their personal situation. I feel comfortable handing this book out to friends and colleagues who have always remained skeptical. In fact it's the only book I've ever handed to someone who expressed some interest in learning more about it. I may even buy an extra copy or two for this very same reason.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2019I have a YouTube channel where I create Bitcoin tutorials. I’ll be recommending this book moving forward.
There’s a lot of great books out there, but this is concise enough to get anyone familiar with the fundamentals of why Bitcoin was created in the first place.
The FAQ is a great place and I hope they will update it as time goes on.
There might be some confusion of the capitalization of Bitcoin throughout the book since I’ve seen them interchanged between paragraphs. The definitions show the difference in the glossary.
I’d recommend this to anyone interested in Bitcoin. I was able to read this in one sitting on my Kindle app on my iPhone.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2020A good Bitcoin (Alt-coin, too) financial history primer. Consider reading this first, for a good grounding in the historical justifications and for the imminent necessity for developing a better financial system for the world ASAP! And, the precipitated future that can be expected if attempts to keep the status quo continue. Information and opinions expressed in the book filled many gaps that other writers tend to gloss over or omit entirely, e.g., how Germany and Russia dropping the gold standard and hyper-printing to fund WW I, led to bogus reparation payments that led to The Great Depression, and later WW II. And, how lengthy wars are protracted, funded by overactive printing presses lacking sound financial backing. This is an important 100 pages to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2020Great book for introduction into the new science of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and alt coins. Simple to understand and please pass this book on to new readers. I have learned a lot this past year and after reading and lots of due diligence into Bitcoin and several alt coins; I have entered into the fray of crypto. It's very exciting and yet scary, too but what I think the rewards way exceeds the risks. It is the wave of the future; blockchain technology and DeFi and the like. We are at the cusp of a new way of thinking and doing business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb explanation of Bitcoin for normal people
Finally a book I can reference/give to people when they ask me about Bitcoin. As a software developer, fascinated with Bitcoin, I struggle to introduce and explain it without getting lost in the technical details. This book handles that perfectly by looking at current real world problems then showing how Bitcoin solves these. It also strikes a great balance with the technical info. Blockchain, transaction, crypto etc are all explained with just enough detail to get the broad concepts across. The finally Q&A section is a nice bonus whereby it takes some common questions/criticisms and gives simple and straightforward answers and counter arguments.
I thought I would get nothing from this book but I’m reading it again. It’s really helped to clarify and reinforce my belief that Bitcoin can have a massive positive effect in the world. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

I think 10 years from now, people will understand the importance of the information in this book.

Bitcoin is not a get quick rich scheme contrary to what some people think. Its purpose is much greater. Bitcoin is essential for the creation of a fairer world for all people on earth in the future.
