10 common interview questions and how to answer them 👇

1. Could you tell me about yourself and describe your background in brief?

Briefly mention why you are keen about the field, mentioning your education and path. Talk about your passion or reason to why you would be great for the job.

2. How did you hear about this position?

Referred? You can mention who and why you they thought you would be a good fit

Job posting? What made you interested, do you values align, niche, etc.? If so great points to bring up

Recruited? Does it align, why did you follow up

3. What type of work environment do you prefer?

Is it a flat organizational structure?

Do you prefer collaboration, autonomy?

Companies want people who fit their culture, see if you resonate before applying on their website. If so, that's great and you can talk about this!

4. How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?

This is a good opportunity to talk about a time where you remained calm and collected under intense pressure and where there were deadlines

5. Do you prefer working independently or on a team?

You're most likely working with a group of people, however this may depend on the role

Highlighting positives and negatives can work in your favor since at times you will need to do both

6. When you’re balancing multiple projects, how do you keep yourself organized?

Give an example where you balanced multiple projects, how you are able to manage time and prioritize whilst remaining organized and not becoming overwhelmed.

Show you take deadlines seriously.

7. What did you do in the last year to improve your knowledge?

Did you upskill? There's likely things you will need to learn on the job.

If you demonstrate a growth-mindset and a continuous learning culture, then the company knows you will be more likely to be a self-starter.

8. What are your salary expectations?

This is normally to make sure expectations are aligned. Discussing a range is normally better than a specific number.

Shooting too high may be out of the budget as well, so some recruiters may ask this to screen out candidates early.

9. Are you applying for other jobs?

Be honest here, no point lying. It can work in your favor either way. Here you can explain why you are really excited about the role you are interviewing for.

10. What questions do you have for me?

This is a great opportunity to learn about the company, you may be talking to a software engineer or product manager. Exercise your curiosity here.

You could ask about the culture, what their favorite thing about the company is, etc.
