I think Wildcard is THE Web 3 game with the best shot at mass adoption

A good game does not always = a good investment though

With 24hrs until their first mint, here's my thoughts on their NFTs as an investor 🧵
Wildcard

There's LOTS of content written on the project already.

TLDR:

-> League of Legends meets Clash Royale meets Overwatch
-> A+ team w/ success in many genres & platforms
-> $46M funding round
-> A+ promo materials
-> Great gameplay footage ⬇⬇

The Lead Up

Wildcard's road to mint hasn't been a smooth one.

Originally the mint was a ticket for an in-game exhibition & performance - community wasn't into it, date was pushed back.

Next, it was a mint for packs of in-game creatures.

Finally, we arrived at a genesis pass.
I'll talk more later about what this says about the team, but in terms of how this effects the mint...

...3 product overhauls and a date pushed back two months is obviously not ideal for community confidence or for momentum.
Mint Details

Date: 4/20
Chain: Polygon
Price: 44 MATIC
Supply: 4444

Gaming mints have had a rough run on Polygon recently, and those were free mints of often smaller supply.

As far as paid mint prices go though, 44 MATIC seems reasonable.
Utility

-> Future allowlist access
-> Holder-only airdrops
-> Private holder channel/early info etc.
-> Priority access to playtesting, content creator, collab, and partnership programs
-> Early access to ownership opportunities within the Wildcard Leagues Ecosystem
Lots to unpack here.

Firstly, from an investor pov, the market doesn't really care about priority access or early info - I'm ignoring those.

I'm going to look at:
-> Future WL
-> Ownership opportunities
-> Exclusive airdrops
I'm not big on 'WL to future paid mints'.

In this case the mints will often be creature cards, & card packs do see demand in relevant games, so I see this as more valuable.

Given creature packs will likely be a key revenue source tho, I imagine they'll scale supply with demand.
Ownership Opportunities

I'm not going to go into their Leagues system but effectively this could function somewhat like Land.

From what we know, I suspect it will be the type of Land that requires time and effort to monetise tho, like organising in-game ticketed events.
Land that's high effort, non-guaranteed revenue, is valued lower by the market, even if it's better design for the game itself.

The utility here's also only "early access", not "exclusive access" too.

I think pre-mint this utility's given minor value but mostly a nothingburger.
Exclusive Airdrops

Exclusive airdrops is the perfect utility to let speculator's imaginations run wild. It promises little while implying everything & anything.

While the market would love details, "exclusive airdrops' is normally enough to stop any perception of "no utility".
Pre-mint, I think the utility is enough.

It's not going to wow anyone but it won't turn people off either.

Longer term, from a value pov, it comes down to what "exclusive airdrops" actually entails.

You're completely reliant here on whether you think the team wants to...
...provide FINANCIAL value to holders &/or care about the FP of the passes.

The team can drive as much or as little value to the passes as they want when promising airdrops.

My intuition, based on speaking to the team & tracking the project - I think they want to provide value.
WANTING to is different from KNOWING how to, of course.

Needing to change up your mint multiple times shows that the understanding of what the community values is not perfect.

The WILLINGNESS to do that tho shows they care about this mint, and have a desire to learn & adapt.
Hype Levels

Wildcard has been known about in the Web 3 gaming space for ages. We have little of the NFT space's liquidity tho.

As Delabs showed, the bulk of the liquidity is in the wider NFT space and up until a few days ago Wildcard was mostly unheard of in those alpha groups.
Discord activity, Discord engagement, Twitter engagement, AMA attendance - they're all okay.

Nothing crazy.

5600 entries for their latest Alphabot WL raffle - decent.
Overall Thoughts - The Mint

I think it performs well. I think the fundamental strength of the project carries it & gives the degens reason enough to ape in.

I was worried when big NFT groups hadn't heard of the mint a few days back but that seems to have somewhat changed.
Overall Thoughts - Longer Term

I love Wildcard's promise as a game.

Being a successful game ≠ that value is driven to the NFTs.

I think the team cares about driving value to them tho & I think if the game's a success that speculators will buy the NFTs regardless.
I'll almost certainly be max minting.

If I can scoop off secondary ~mint price, I likely will.

(The one good thing about Polygon mints, ppl flip for pennies)

I want a long term bag - whether that means holding from mint or getting in & out on a big pump & then in again - TBD.
