The son of the comic novelist Kingsley Amis, Martin Amis explores his relationship with this father and writes about the various crises of Kingsley's life. He also examines the life and legacy of his cousin, Lucy Partington, who was abducted and murdered by one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers. Experience also deconstructs the changing literary scene, including Amis' portraits of Saul Bellow, Salman Rushdie, Allan Bloom, Philip Larkin, and Robert Graves, among others.

Martin Amis's brilliant memoir "Experience" - a book that fuses his humor, intellect and daring with a new gravitas and warmth, an autobiography that is both a loving tribute to his father Kingsley, and a fulfillment of his own abundant talents as a writer

His best book in my opinion is actually not a novel but his memoir Experience. Among the novels my favorite is actually a short murder mystery of sorts called Night Train. Next would be Money.

There are so many things I could say about a writer who meant a great deal to people in roughly my age range, but for now I will observe that Experience is the most touching and hilarious tribute a son has ever written to a father—the best autobiography of our time easily.
