Earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology (with honors first class) from McGill University in 1985. Earned a PhD in cognitive psychology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990.

Received a BA from the University of Bristol, PhD from Darwin College, Cambridge, lecturer at the University of Nottingham, and Senior Lecturer at the Open University (resigned in May 2013).
