Nationalist-populist policies won't help American workers. any changes have been inflicted on the Right by the ascendancy of Donald Trump, including a substantial altering of its posture on economic issues. Where this blend of economic nationalism and conservative populism has been tried, it has been found wanting โ€” at least if you take the goal of working-class populism to be the bettering of opportunities and outcomes for the working class. And there is every reason to believe that more of this approach in the future will lead to the same disappointing outcomes.
