This piece is heavily inspired by the work of Sol LeWitt.
LeWitt revolutionised the definition of art in the 60s by stating that the idea of an artwork is more important than its form.

He wrote down the instructions, but the actual execution would be carried out by someone else.
Generative artists have taken this logic to a next level, by writing software code and having a computer (instead of a human) carry out the instructions.

LeWitt has inspired many active generative artists.
One of our favourite collections is LeWitt Generator Generator by @mitchellfchan. Mitchell has reimagined LeWitt's work on complex, algorithmically-generated walls.

But walls aren't the only surface LeWitt has used to create art.
In this piece, he asks the reader to connect all ifs, ands or butts by green lines:
With SHERLOCK, Matt takes the first page of Adventures of Sherlock Holmes as an input source and connects all periods on the page.
There's a connection between the text and the drawing, as "decoding a message" or "connecting the dots" could be tied to detective work.

It's also interesting to note that Matt has digitally reimagined LeWitt's work before.
