You may think that climate hysteria and FUD on PoW "waste" of energy can be an attack vector against Bitcoin, but actually is the opposite, it is very good for Bitcoin!

The anti-PoW movement will not jeopardize Bitcoin censorship resistance as there will always be profit oriented miners somewhere to mine your transaction. On the other hand, environmentalism will minimise the ability of governments to attack Bitcoin (2/9)
Let's say that either directly or indirectly through regulation a government takes control of a majority share of the global hashrate. A costly but effective attack would be to impose a evil soft fork that makes invalid all the non approved transactions (3/9)
In such case, the only thing bitcoiners could do is to hard fork away from the compliant chain by changing the PoW algorithm. This, while feasible, is not easy to coordinate and may not solve the problem in the long term (4/9)
However, what would really happen if a government controls a large portion of Bitcoin hashrate? Will it keep "wasting energy" and "boiling the oceans" indefinitely just to make sure some bad guys txs are not confirmed on the blockchain? (5/9)
Most likely, there would be a lot of political pressure to just turn off the miners and "save the planet". Doing so they can earn political points and make environmentally conscious electorate happy (6/9)
This means that after getting control of mining farms, the government will just shut down the miners instead of attacking the chain, leaving the "unregulated" and profit oriented miners in control of the chain, guaranteeing that Bitcoin continue to stay censorship resistant (7/9)
We may just end up with a temporally lower hashrate, but that's not a problem thanks to Bitcoin's difficulty adjustment (8/9)
Therefore, we should not fight environmental FUD against PoW, but on contrary we should encourage it. Bans on Bitcoin mining are good! What today looks like a enemy, tomorrow it may become our biggest ally in preserving Bitcoin integrity and resistance to censorship attacks (9/9)
