This is what it's like to build a handyman business in real time.

Vulnerability not my strong suit, but going to be required.

Here's where we are in the checklist:
Idea: Do basic home repairs for people at a price that seems crazy to me because I can do them easily, but is a week saver to someone else.

Stay with projects I know backwards and forwards that can be done by myself (if you're handy, that list is lengthier than you think)
Price in being a different kind of guy than who normally comes to the door (if anyone comes at all). 20 years of leadership, MBA, military infantry officer, Wall St., church executive.
But choosing to work with my hands for money because our society needs people with character and tools, homeowners need the help, my kids need the example

And there is legit money to be made.
Market: mid-sized US city, on a growth trend, working professionals with money who own homes, trust in the person they're letting in those homes is at a premium

Growth potential in literally every US town and city
Marketing/Branding: Spent real $ on a domain name. Twitter account with 2 followers who are not my mom. Website and SEO strategy being developed time now. Getting Google my Business and Yelp up and running, word of mouth already started.

Logo and stuff done
Skills: been repairing homes for years. Still need to stay sharp. Taking masonry class at local tech school. 1. to learn a new skill, 2. that's where some people in the trades are trying to better themselves 3. Recruiting for growth.
Logistics: Entity formed. Bank account done. @nextInsurance1 EASY CHOICE. All the coverage I need for <$5/workday.

Have a ton of tools. Buying a trailer, not a van. I own a truck that's paid for.
Tech tools: Google suite, Quickbooks

@HousecallPro ALL DAY. Great platform, great sales team who listened, great onboarding. ability for customers to send photos of what they need repaired before I quote. Awesome.
Growth strategy: licensing opportunities with term limits for people who are sharp, emotionally intelligent, appropriate with people. Want to start their own biz but need a boost. Willing to pay for a boost but not get destroyed the rest of their career by franchising.
Now it's time to get it done. Here we go
Not doing this on my own. @sweatystartup ideas have been helpful. Convo w/ @deedradeterman helpful. Lots of others.
