Thread
Bits & Pieces: a thread in 30 parts.

Accompanying my solo show NGMI (De.Groen, NL, June-Sept) is a compilation containing a selection of moving image works from my @TezosFoundation NFT collection, projected as a loop in the art space's media basement.

Here they are 🥳:
1/ @Edgar_Frias_
The void is infinite
(Do you see me seeing you seeing me?)

Edgar often uses their work as spells: the pulsating colors are designed to hypnotize the viewer. Here, the powers of text & image move way beyond mere 'image consumption'.

2/ @davegreber
Naked Brilliance
In her mantle
Grail Aflame
The Heart of the World

Promoted, shadow-banned social media posts

A series of short musings blending the language of commercial advertisement with philosophy from another world.

3/ @lm_netwebs
Belle de guerre

I keep hearing the sound of maracas in this .gif by the ever-so delightful Lorna Mills.

(Taking this opportunity to shamelessly remind you all of a short text I wrote on one of her other works: hart-magazine.be/artikels/cofveve-en)

4/ @davidleonardtv
Cosmic time Share
(Training video for terrestrial communication)

So many questions arise from this 9 second video. This eerie introduction to a soap opera from space is as confusing as it is fascinating. Who are these 'people'?

teia.art/objkt/285127

5/ @Nicolas_Sassoon
SUNSET

As a large scale projection, there's a cerebral quality to this work, emulating more the experience of a sunset than attempting capture it. Nicolas' moiré patterns simulate the vibration of solar heat. Sunglasses on!

6/ @richardsonkelly
HALO I

HALO is a trilogy revisiting an early video, Camp, from 1998. In the 23 years between both works, the world has changed; the distortion of the moon by the heat of a campfire has lost its innocence in a heating world.

@c_e_braileanu
Untitled (Rhythm in a Landscape Painting)

Claudia's meditative work takes an investigation into painting to a parallel space where it becomes so much more. Here, the unsettling void of the virtual x, y, z axes has become the canvas.

teia.art/objkt/616386

8/ @antiquefuture
oracle [2] [delNorte]

One of the most fascinating techniques available, at least to me, is photogrammetry. Justin captured this redwood tree in 2017 and reconstructed it in an almost fairytale-like, pulsating, hallucinant scene.

9/ @acatfishartist
Waiting for...

This is part of a series using a stylized computer screen as a canvas. This desktop view is pleasantly empty (as opposed to most of our desktops, I suppose), and the progress bar loading nothing becomes meditative.

teia.art/objkt/564841

10/ @ze_zima
Astrozoology

This work by Alfie Dwyer is a multidimensional Rubik's cube. Honestly, I could have this on repeat the whole day, not just because of its impressive technical wizardry, but the very idea of astrozoology is quite appealing!

(photosensitive warning!)

One of the most amazing things of this NFT journey is connecting to young, talented artists, that would've been outside of my field of view before. Caio is one of those!

12/ @hansjakobwagner

ACT I: The Awakening

Robotics scientist Hans must have had a lot of fun getting this gorgeous robot to mint on H=N. It even takes a courtesy bow at the end! This is a piece of @TezosFoundation history, methinks.

teia.art/objkt/326593

13/ @ROBNESSOFFICIAL
HOW TO BURN A CRYPTOPUNK AND NOT FEEL A THING.......A TUTORIAL

Equally important in @TezosFoundation history is this performance by the legendary Robness! Do read my column for context: hart-magazine.be/artikels/from-the-digital-art-collection-of-alexandra-crouwers-robness

14/ @uncertaingaze
a transient skin

Equally enigmatic as they are wise is Gozo, one of the first likeminded artists I came across in this space. Gozo's works seemed to compliment my first series of mints paying tribute to alchemist emblema.

15/ @digitalcoleman
Vital Ruination

Artist and prolific collector Chris Coleman shares my fascination with photogrammetry, accentuating the decay of flower bouquets by using ever-flawed scanned models, which seem to be born in ruins.

versum.xyz/token/versum/23820

16/ @rodellwarner
Terrarium 029
Terrarium 030

One of my research areas is the diorama – best known as wilderness simulations in natural history museums. These are like souvenirs, an attempt to preserve splinters of 'nature' for the future.

@rodellwarner 17/ @habitual_truant
Virtual Phenomenology 113

In this series Magma Lord Wade Wallerstein wanders through gamescapes, momentarily taking pause at accidental or otherwise less suspicious nooks and crannies in these virtual worlds.

18/ @yoshi_sodeoka
Lazurite
from the collection Minerals

The term 'reaction-diffusion' alone sounds endlessly intriguing to me. Here, sound and visuals merge; I imagine dolphins singing, and, sure, I hear the crystalline pitch of lazurite!

Sssssemiotiiiiicssss

Patrick Jamora tackles the Philippines' post-kolonialist gaze in a series of miniatures resembling cheery vintage postcards; but they're much less innocent than they appear.

teia.art/objkt/582336

20/ @violet_forest
Street Surveillance Technologies

A great example of art x activism. The description says it all: it serves to remind protestors to cover their face during demonstrations. The work raised money to donate to protesters in Colombia.

teia.art/objkt/65393

21/ @annaxmalina
Tâ—»chMyErrâ—»rs .x. Strâ—»keMyKeys

Much of Anna's work reminds me of summoning ghosts. Despite their material origins – these are stop motion animations – the works seem weirdly disembodied. This grid, I wonder: who is it protecting?

teia.art/objkt/711181
22/ @EllieHedden
witchcard#12

We all know @Ariel_Institute
's amazing avatar project by now, but the elusive Ellie dabs in a similar connection between magic and image as many of my collected works do.

Read more about Ellie: hart-magazine.be/artikels/from-the-digital-art-collection-of-alexandra-crouwers-ariel-institute

23/ @ricksilva
Smoke / Signal

In this work, Rick seemingly lifts the curtain of digital wizardry, but upon closer inspection this 'behind the scenes' doesn't make sense at all, because his virtual set up simulates a physical studio. Much to unpack here.

versum.xyz/token/versum/488
24/ @sashastiles x @technelegy (sound by Kris Bones)
I wonder what language I should hold

Stiles collaborations with her AI poet are without exception stunning. I had a hard time choosing between this work, and the silent 'Is there poetry on Mars?'

versum.xyz/token/versum/949

25/ @patricktresset
What the Robot Saw, AC

This is me! Being drawn by the magnificent robots of the amazing @patricktresset, at @nft_paris last January. Patrick and @DianeDrubay are instrumental in art curation on @tezos with the @alterHEN initiative.

teia.art/objkt/655390

26/ @memotv
Hello World!

I can't help but feeling a tiny bit sorry for this machine 'opening its eyes for the first time', and being confronted with Memo's sardonic expressions, haha!

Memo's articles on blockchain energy use pointed me to @tezos.

Common Fork

Minted around the time H=N's plug got pulled, this 'common fork' became an insider's joke – at least to me. I remember the epic turmoil on Discord, and the emergence of @TeiaCommunity. It was AWESOME, right @EggsUnknow?

teia.art/objkt/477780

28/ @acrwrs
We are in the Garden of the Forking Paths

I hesitated to add myself, but it just fit so well after 'Common Fork' I couldn't resist. It's a stand-alone reworked version of a ‘waiting room’ chapter from this film: youtu.be/pCSV9YyNKFA

Only Minds

If there ever were such a thing as the ultimate internet manifesto, it would be this .gif by Faith Holland. Combining a text from a 1997 communications company ad with the web's early icons, this work is iconic itself.

teia.art/objkt/296791
30/ @Edgar_Frias_
Failure is Fun

As a fan of loops and out of a certain sensitivity to symmetry, I ended the program where it started: with Edgar. I show students this video, because allowing yourself to 'fail' is probably the hardest thing to do.

teia.art/objkt/321060

And thus this thread ends, but not before I direct you to the whole of my eclectic collection. I made a careful selection of various types of moving image art in function of the space, the flow, and the audience. This meant 'killing' many darlings.
