A very brief 🧵:
Theory of Mind research--esp computational work--is thriving, and an emerging focus is ToM's role in planning actions, like when we do or say things to evoke thoughts or reactions in others🗣️🤣
This raises a question: How does planning shape the structure/organization of ToM?
This raises a question: How does planning shape the structure/organization of ToM?
To address this question, we review recent research into the core mechanisms of planning, analyze the implications of these findings for ToM, and highlight several domains in social cognition where the planning with ToM perspective applies
We hope our paper helps situate ToM within the larger context of decision-making mechanisms and can spur new research directions for the field🧪
I'm truly grateful to my incredibly thoughtful and brilliant collaborators, @rebecca_saxe and @fierycushman, as well as @TrendsCognSci and the reviewers for giving us a space to develop these ideas in depth!
