/10 I want to talk a little about my series Compositions in Pink. It’s a series that re-imagines one of the most important genres in the history of painting, still life. For me, this series is about creating still life from a decolonial, feminist and posthuman perspectives.
🧵
/10 Still Life is a genre that has a very long history. I am particularly attracted to it because the arrangement of everyday objects tell a lot about the view and world of the artist, but also it’s a condensed portrait of a time and place in a more general sense.
/10 Traditionally, every object in still life paintings has a meaning, normally linked to religion and social-economical status. In my series, I decided to collaborate with AI to deconstruct the objects and organisms, until they become something else, indefinable.
/10 The objects, plants, minerals and animals of this series all remind us of actual things and organisms that exist, but they are often hybrids, mutants, strange in their forms, textures or materials. They are emotionally evocative and placed in open-ended scenes.
/10 This is a universe dominated not by the human, but by strange organisms and minerals that became the protagonists of their own obscure stories. Sometimes, their position defies physical laws. Also the backgrounds and the settings seem geometric but sometimes illogical.
/10 The choice of the color pink is not trivial. While there were a few successful female painters mastering still life painting, the vast majority of the works we see in museums and history books are still life paintings by white European male artists.
/10 So it was important for me to work with pink, this cliche color linked to the feminine. And to include elements pertaining to a tropical nature that are meaningful to me, reminders of my home country and alien to still life paintings of the European masters.
/10 While it was important for me to mint these 20 pieces together, to give a broad idea of this body of work and how each piece relates to others, each artwork in the series is a mini-universe in itself, each fascinating in its own way.
/10 I have a lot to say about my creative process working with AI, but that deserves another thread, some other day. Suffice to say, I had a lot of fun re-imagining this genre of painting with AI, a genre that is all about showing the painter skills off.
/10 I hope you enjoy the artworks! Don’t hesitate in commenting below or dm if you want to discuss more about the series.

For the potential collectors: I am accepting offers for an hour and then I will list the remaining pieces. Please check pin for more info.
