Back in the Covid days, Axios ran with a wild story claiming as much as 50% of unemployment benefits were being stolen by street gangs and state-backed foreign criminal syndicates. Last week, Congress finally got to the bottom of where that claim came from. Turns out, it was made up by a company trying to sell anti-fraud services to government agencies.
