I love software, but the ephemerality of it all is saddening; e.g. I want to use services like Goodreads or Letterboxd, but I’ve been burned too many times by proprietary software being shut down and losing years of accumulated history. Digital self-sufficiency ftw.

Relatedly, I’m sad that Apple shut down Dark Sky; somehow it sparked joy, despite being a mere weather app, and the Apple weather app is far worse. (It’d be interesting to read a blog post from a skilled designer breaking down exactly why this is, but the UI is a disaster.)
