I saw some people talking about Second Life in reference to the Facebook Zuckaverse plans.

Also, great thread. Was thinking of writing a similar one myself. A few things not emphasized! - All objects in SL were scriptable, Turing-complete with a Metaverse-API. This was so ahead of its time. - The above lead to a lot of griefing and surrounding mechanism design.
