You have to go there many times over to understand what is being described in the book. It’s fabulous once you get the many many parts of Venice. A sense of place is multi faceted.

This book taught me a lot about a real understanding of space and surroundings. Hard to pin down books and others have said Zumthor; Lynch; Calvino; Norbert Schulz - all of which are important.

This is a brilliant one. And the others in the series. You have to visit his projects and then read again.

Have always found this a useful basis for carrying out analysis. Also good for explaining an understanding of the surroundings to non urbanism professionals and children.
