Wonderful book, excellent writing on what can, in other's hands, be a dull topic. Odd that he has become an opponent of BTC, but, people have their anomalies.

The Brothers Karamazov was also brilliant, but I agree with you on Crime and Punishment. More directly to the point you are referring to.
