Jose G. Vallarino is an agronomist engineer. He holds a PhD in sciences and agronomical sciences from the University of Málaga, Spain and University of Talca, Chile. He started his research career in Chile studying the problematic of volatile compounds related to detrimental flavours in grapevines and red wines. During this time, he was also granted to perform two international research stays (NYSAES, Cornell University, USA and Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPI-MP, Germany) where he starts applying metabolomics on his research. Currently, on his second postdoctoral studies at MPI-MP (under supervision of Prof. Dr Alisdair Fernie), he is using a wide range of “System biology” approaches, including high throughput- GC/MS and LC/MS/MS-based metabolomics techniques, use of bioinformatics tools and mathematical models in order to develop, testing and applying novel-constraint models that predicts the capacity of the metabolic networks of different plant tissues. He has also been implemented a metabolic engineering strategy of unprecedented scale in plants in an attempt to remove flux bottleneck from across the metabolic network.
