Ted Chiang doesn't have a twitter, does he?

I would very, very much like to do a live reading on Spaces of The Alchemist's Gate, imo his best work and in fact one of the best works in SF/F. So I'm going to go see if I can get permission to do so

More of a science fiction carp, specifically gentleman-thief - "the quantum thief". Hard-enough sci-fi. Very good for escapism

Not to everyone's taste but "Too Like the Lightning" is an all time favorite of mine

It's extremely sociologically rich, some of the best world building I've ever seen

Watched Pig just now. Great movie, solid cinematography, reminds you that Nicholas Cage is a great actor (if you needed reminding). Moving meditation on craft and last loves

You should read Hannah Arendt's "the human condition" - it helped me make sense of why purity norms work the way they do Tdlr people are trying to abstract themselves beyond cyclical biological processes in order to act in the larger world.

Too Like the Lightning is one of the most creative works of science fiction in the past ten years and the second most enjoyable sci-fi I've ever read. I recommend it with extreme strength and suspect you'll enjoy it as well

I've been doing a reading group that does 5-10 aphorisms from The Gay Science a week and it has been excellent

Btw if anyone's in the market for accessible interpretations of the Iliad I highly recommend Simone Weil's booklet on the subject. It's the simplest and most powerful lens I've encountered on the work so far

I highly recommend you watch this video btw - I think a lot of people, myself included, end up being like this dog its just much much subtler and on the level of thought/simply staying in awkward positions
