Yann Kerlau was a lawyer in New York and Paris before working for more than fifteen years in the field of luxury and cosmetics, notably for the Gucci and Yves Saint-Laurent groups. From 2000 to 2008 he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Gucci Group. His professional activities which have taken him to the four corners of the world, reading and history, his two other passions, have been a source of inspiration for him.
Fascinated by the character of Cromwell, he devoted a biography to him in 1989 published by Perrin, under the title Cromwell, la morale des seigneurs. In 1990, he published an essay, The Aga Khans, saga of these Ismaili spiritual leaders, which was republished in 2004. His first novel, L'échiquier de la reine, was published by Plon in 2010. In it, he revived the fascinating character and incredibly modern Queen Christina of Sweden. This book has sold over 10,000 copies to date. The same year, Yann Kerlau retraces, in a new essay, The dynasties of luxury, the destinies of these great families that are Cartier, Ferragamo, Gucci, Hermès or even Vuitton, a work which has been translated into several languages. In the process, in 2013 he published Les secrets de la mode which completed his vision of three centuries of inventiveness in the world of couture.
