Born into the Mellon family, Christopher Mellon is the son of Karl Negley Mellon and Anne Stokes Bright. He is the great-grandson of William Larimer Mellon, co-founder of Gulf Oil, and the great-great-grandson of Thomas Mellon, founder of Mellon Bank of Pittsburgh. He holds a B.A. in economics from Colby College and a master's degree from Yale University in international relations with a concentration in finance and management.
