Brilliant article and thread by David Wallace-Wells, giving an up-to-date state of play on climate change - the progress to date, and the crises we still face

Tweet Oct 27, 2022

I’m so honoured that What We Owe The Future is Blackwell’s non-fiction book of the year! I’m a huge admirer of the previous two books (The Right to Sex and Humankind), and it’s surreal to be in such company.

This is a really excellent thread by @bridgetw_au on what we should be doing to prevent the next pandemic:

Tweet Sep 30, 2022
Recently the World Bank announced a new pandemic prevention fund. While this is very welcome news, the $1.4 billion committed to the fund so far is a long way from its goal of $10b. This is just one example of underfunding of pandemic prevention. 1/1

@laramani14 & I have comment article in @Nature (www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-02177-x), highlighting the risk from large eruptions & what we could do about them. I was a bit worried that some info might get misconstrued, so wanted to provide a

This piece is beautiful, inspiring, and deeply emotionally resonant for me. @naina_bajekal is an exceptional writer; she's created a deep and nuanced piece that perfectly captures the essence of effective altruism, as I feel it in my heart and my bones.

And I'd love to see more deep, constructive critical engagement like @michael_nielsen's recent essay. So it comes at a good time that, if you want to critically engage with widely-held beliefs in the EA community, there's now a prize you can win!
